Q: What is a pharmacy technician?A: A pharmacy technician is someone who works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, is accountable to the supervising pharmacist and performs activities delegated by the pharmacist that require certain skills and knowledge.Q: Where are classes held?A: Pharmacy Technician classes are held at the King Center, Auraria Campus, 855 Lawrence Way, Denver, CO. King Center is located between Lawrence Way, the Plaza Building, the Parking Garage and the Tivoli Center.Q: Why do I need to purchase the course materials when I register?A: The CPhT course is only 12 weeks long. Because of this, students need to receive their course material at the mandatory orientation class that occurs 1 week before the first class. Students receive their first homework assignment at this time. Any delay in receiving course materials would put the student at a disadvantage.Q: Why is getting certified as a pharmacy technician so important? I heard that you don't need to be certified to work as a pharmacy technician.A:You don't legally need to be certified to work as a pharmacy technician. Most places of employment, however, either require certification or strongly consider it when hiring new technician employees. Some states do require pharmacy technicians to be certified and Colorado may move toward that in the near future. If you don't have any previous pharmacy technician experience and you aren't certified, it will be very difficult for you to find employment in this field.Pharmacy technicians have a high degree of responsibility in a pharmacy. They fill prescriptions, make IVs, compound products, answer phones, manage inventory, process billing, and provide computer order entry support. It only makes sense that pharmacies look for sharp highly qualified individuals to fill these positions. Obtaining your CPhT demonstrates to future employers your commitment to this career path. Employers typically recognize the value of their CPhTs by offering them a hire wage scale. Most advanced technician positions such as a lead tech or supervisor require a CPhT. Q: Can I really learn what I need to know to pass the national pharmacy certification exam and function in this career in 12 weeks?A: The answer is a resounding YES! As far as passing the certification exam, remember our GUARENTEE. As far as being able to function in this career, every pharmacy that hires a technician whether they are certified or not, experienced or not, puts them through a site specific training program. In addition, our externship program allows you to gain actual experience while completing the course. This is better than any school lab that other programs offer. Keep in mind that these externships offer other advantages besides work experience; they allow you to begin to network and rub shoulders with potential future employers.Students in programs that take 10-12months to complete forget a lot of what they learned in their beginning months. This makes review and study for the national certification test difficult. Our program and support material leaves students fresh and prepared to sit for the exam. Q: I don't have any pharmacy experience. How can you offer such an outrageous guarantee?A:Quite simply, we couldn't off this guarantee if we weren't so good at what we do and cared so greatly about your success. We expect our students to take this education seriously and commit the time necessary to successfully learn the material. Our students expect us to provide them with a high quality education unequalled in the industry. We work together to get you nationally certified as a pharmacy technician.Q: How do I know this program is legitimate?A: HER of Denver has been licensed by The Colorado Department of Higher Education, Division of Private Occupational Schools, 1380 Lawrence Street, Suite 1200, Denver, Colorado 80204, Phone: (303) 894-2960, Fax: (303) 866-4184Q: Why do your classes cost so little compared to other similar programs? Most vocational school programs charge $5000-$7000 and require approximately a year of instruction to complete. The cost of on-line programs average $1800 with no live instruction or support.A:First, we do not have the high overhead expenses that most of the community colleges and other schools have; no fancy laboratories to maintain, no highly paid professionals that have been out of the industry for years, no building maintenance or oversized staff on payroll to manage. In addition, we are strictly focused on the pharmacy technician field and do not have a plethora of non-related courses to oversee and maintain. This allows us to provide our students a very high quality education at a very reasonable price. As for internet based programs, they charge quite a bit for what you get. Many students that go this route are left confused with the material and no place to go to get the help they need to succeed. Internet companies target uncertified technicians already in the field, much the opposite of us. We target mature career changers with absolutely no experience in pharmacy. We do however get our fair share of uncertified technicians working in the industry from referrals. Q: Does your school offer financial aid?A:We do not offer financial aid for our Certified Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Our fees are so low it doesn't warrant having a highly paid government trained financial specialist as part of our staff. Added paperwork and salaries equals added costs and eventually increased training fees for you.If you look at the programs that that take an average of 10 months to complete at $7000, Pell Grants pay only $2600 per year and SEOG pays around $500 - $1000 per year. That equals a maximum of around $3600. Who's going to pay the balance of $3400? YOU are of course! This will come in the form of student loans such as the Guaranteed Student Loan Program which only pays $2400 in the first year. That still leaves over $1000 that needs to be paid JUST in TUITION alone. Now add the other materials such as books, lab fees, parking fees, etc., and you're left in debt from the word go. Q: Who teaches the course?A:Take a look at the credentials of our current instructors listed on this web site! We utilize experienced pharmacists and CPhTs who love their profession and love to teach others the knowledge they posses. There are a number of advantages to this. You gain real world experience and examples along with your education from individuals that are currently working in the pharmacy industry. Our instructors will show you what is expected once you assume the role of a CPhT. They can guide you in making appropriate career choices and help prepare you for an interview. The interview session that is part of the overall program is designed to make you keenly aware of how to present yourself to prospective employers!Q: How do I register for the next class?A:The main factor to consider when registering is that our classes fill up fast. We limit the number classes we offer at a time so that we can be sure you get the attention you need. You may register for class by going to our registration page on this web site. From this location the most efficient way to register is by completing the on-line registration form and submitting it with your credit card information. Our site is secure for this type of transaction. Once your information is received you are registered for class. You may also print out the application and mail it in with your payment. If the class you are registering for is filled before your application and payment is received, you will be contacted to see if you want a refund or be placed in our next available class.
